Artist Harriet Lawless holding a painting she made of the Brecon Beacons in Wales

About me

I’m an Australian landscape oil painter. I’m based in London, but I spend my year painting between Australia, the UK, and Mediterranean Europe. These places have such distinct light and colour, and I love how different it feels to focus on each.

I’m inspired by bold, intense colour. In every painting, I aim to balance my urge to push colour with my desire to capture a recognisable, honest painting of a particular landscape. I don’t want to paint a scene exactly as it is, but rather to show what I found captivating about it - and that’s usually colour.

Light and atmosphere are an important part of this, and I’m always striving to use them in my paintings to tell the story of how it felt to be in that landscape.
